All-Natural Recipe for Homemade Face Wash
An All-Natural Face Wash Recipe
Acne has plagued me since I was a teenager. It’s been a frustrating, expensive, and tear filled journey trying to get my skin under control. And yet, nothing has worked for me 100%. I am not exaggerating when I say I have tried every medication available on the market, prescription and over the counter. I even did a few rounds of Accutane which cleared my skin up for about 6 months. Just long enough to have a fresh face for my wedding day.
Needless to say, pregnancy and wearing a mask on and off because of the pandemic has not done my skin any favors. My hormones are having a field day and since I’ve been pregnant or healing from pregnancy for the better part of the past three years, I’ve been feeling a bit defeated when it comes to my skincare routine. Being pregnant also means I am very limited in what I can (or want) to use on my skin.
And then I remembered a recipe for a homemade face wash that I found years ago that I loved. I’m not sure why I ever stopped making it since it worked wonders in calming down the inflammation in my skin. It’s not a cure-all but it’s the best I’ve found for my troublesome skin. It’s also easy to make and takes only 3 ingredients.
Face wash recipe:
Water
Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castille Liquid Soap – I like the peppermint. Leaves my face feeling fresh with a little tingle to it
Honey – Try to use local honey if you can but any honey will do as long as it’s not flavored with anything. Don’t worry - it doesn’t make it sticky.
A vessel or container to hold your face wash. In the past I’ve used a liquid soap dispenser but am currently making it in a small travel size liquid container.
1. Mix 1 part Dr. Bronner’s and 1 part honey into 2 parts warm water. Gently swirl and invert to mix. Do not shake because the soap will bubble too much.
2. Use any time you wash your face! Give it a gentle swirl to mix as the honey may settle to the bottom between uses. Lather and let it rest on your skin for 15-30 seconds. This allows the honey to do its part.
Remember it’s a liquid so a lot may pour out into your hand if you’re not paying attention to what you’re doing. (I know this from personal experience)
So why use honey?
Honey is naturally antimicrobial. Think about it? It never spoils. That’s because it has the ability to keep bacteria at bay. And what is one culprit that can cause acne and other skin issues? Bacteria!
Honey is also a humectant which means it draws moisture to itself. It’s great at adding moisture to your skin which means you do not have to lather on tons of moisturizer that can potentially clog pores and cause issues. You can use a moisturizer that is gentler on the skin and you can use much less of it, which equates to saving you more money.
This is such a simple recipe that can be all-natural, inexpensive, and a great addition to your skin care routine. Please let me know what you think if you give it a try!
